In 2007, ADVANTAGES was founded by a small group of teachers and educators. We had a simple goal — we wanted to offer kids access to great academic content, regardless of zip code.

Our simple beginning consisted of meetings in a coffee shop with free WIFI and decent lattes. This is where we began to build our online school and digital platform, allowing our mission to take shape- Providing quality education to students anytime, anywhere. The vision is to be a global leader in innovative, student-centered education that bridges cultural, geographic, and economic barriers.

We started with the enrollment of a few displaced students that had nowhere else to go. Quickly we saw proof that kids could, and would, achieve success with our newly developed alternative to traditional school programming. Our online courses and learning experience were a big success.

Our program was born with determination, sacrifice, and enormous support from our families. We left our salaried positions with the districts and universities we worked with, so we could devote our time to our new business.

Initially, we wanted to affect change in our community, but we quickly learned that our reach could expand the globe. This has taken us across all 50 states in the US, and into more than 30 countries to date.

Today, the company and our accredited award-winning online school, ADVANTAGES School International, are still owned and operated by the same passionate team of education professionals who started it all in 2007.

Since those early stages, we have been strategically designing and building digital components into a single, powerfully effective system. Our learning technology and platform supports our students and provides flexibility in meeting the needs of our partners around the world.

Headquartered in Northern Nevada, with our own coffee machine, our well-rounded team is comprised of experts in university admissions, curriculum development, learning programs, SIS platform implementation, and school administration.

ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions, LLC is seeking an Education Implementation Specialist with experience in the SIS, SMS and / or LMS segments of K – 20. Working closely with the ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions team, the Education Implementation Specialist will be responsible for teaching, creating, delivering professional development and training on ADVANTAGES best practices with school leaders to effectively implement ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions programs in school districts and other educational settings. This role will work as part of a team to develop, schedule, organize, and deliver quality implementation consulting and project management services and lead professional development projects.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

  • Design, author and edit new and existing professional learning content for both in-person and online delivery.
  • Manage planning and logistics of on-site and remote training and conduct in-person and remote training sessions on ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions programs. Train and manage a team of consultant trainers.
  • Support the planning and lead the implementation of ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions programs; act as the primary liaison between a partnered school district and ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions, LLC main office HQ
  • Provide best practice quality implementation training and professional learning
  • Provide key support to the ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions initiatives.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Passion for and commitment to the mission of ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions, LLC
  • Demonstrated presentation and communication skills to a variety of different audiences.
  • Experience in partnership relationship management and project management.

SPECIFIC SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 8+ years of related B2B sales, business development, consulting or account management experience
  • BA/BS degree minimum
  • Detail-oriented individual with excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Excellent self-motivation, organizational skills, and comfort working in a collaborative, team-oriented sales team

  • Online teaching strategies specific to blended learning
  • Graduation requirements of ASSIST for all diploma programs

Pam Dion

Chief Executive Officer

Pam Dion is one of the original founders of ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions. Her teaching background includes both the traditional face-to-face classroom setting and online formats. Her grade level instruction spans from the primary grades into post-secondary and even master’s level teacher-credentialing programs. She has vast experience in the design, development, and management of a fully accredited online school, as well as in the development and management of Title 1 after-school care programs for public schools. Pam holds a Master of Education from University of LaVerne and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Industrial Technology. She is certified as a Reading and Language Arts specialist; she has multiple subject teaching credentials and also holds a CLAD certificate which emphasizes teaching in multicultural environments. At ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions, Pam’s chief responsibilities include the development and support of international relationships with qualified educational institutions, programs and resellers. She also works with her team in the development, management and large-scale logistics of implementation and planning. She works with all of ADVANTAGES’ third-party vendors in all areas of marketing, distribution sales, academic and curriculum integration, legal and technical aspects related to the growth of ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions and the individual components of the program.

Allison is one of the original founders of ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions, LLC. Her background spans across all levels of education and into online school development including the accreditation process and administration support of online and “brick and mortar” schools. Allison is one of the founders and original designers of the ASSIST Platform. She has a broad educational background and has more than a decade of teaching experience at the primary, secondary and university level. She also has experience in online curriculum development for the National University Teaching Department. Allison has a Master of Education from University of LaVerne and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Communication. She is certified as a Reading and Language Arts specialist; she has multiple subject teaching credentials and also holds a CLAD certificate which emphasizes teaching in multicultural environments. At ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions, her responsibilities include overseeing staff and company management. Allison coordinates and maintains all training programs for both domestic and international partnerships and manages the technical and legal subjects related to ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions.

Sandy is the Head of School and one of the founders and original designers of ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions. She has more than 14 years of experience in post-secondary education with various universities and has held executive level positions. She has served as Dean of Enrollment Management and traveled internationally for top tier universities. She has legislated for equal access for college opportunities and has been instrumental in increasing financial assistance to students domestically. Sandy has served as a multi-term President of the College Admission Counselors Association and served as a board member of the Hispanic Association of Nevada Educators. She is bilingual and has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Denver and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola Marymount University. She launched the first online MBA program for a medium size university in Colorado and grew that program substantially over the course of two years. Sandy’s primary responsibilities focus on expanding ADVANTAGES’ curriculum choices and empowering communication between academic partners and student records management units. Her innovation and passion towards ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions is about making a difference for students by integrating technology into education. Sandy is also the registrar for ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions, LLC online school program – ADVANTAGES School International.

Ismail Khan

Chief Financial Officer

Ismail Khan has more than 25 years in leadership roles specializing in finance and administration, most recently as CFO of Middlebury Interactive Languages, LLC, a partnership between a Middlebury College and K12, Inc. As a member of the senior management team, Ismail helped drive a threefold increase in revenue and profits and implemented an organic strategy for organizational growth. Ismail also worked at Pearson Education, the world’s largest publisher, in a series of finance roles with increasing responsibility. He is adept at forming and leading startup companies and has managed the functional areas of Finance, Human Resources, Technology Support and Customer Service. Ismail is a firm believer in a team-based approach, where individual strengths and competencies come together in collaboration for success. Ismail majored in finance at Loyola University Chicago and resides in the Chicago area with his wife and college-bound son.

Mariam Purcell

Vice President Product & Implementation

Mariam has worked as a classroom teacher and a high school counselor in the traditional classroom setting, besides having worked for over 10 years within online teaching environments. She has a Master of Science in Educational Counseling and possesses a Pupil Public Service Credential, Single Subject Credentials K-12 for Physical Education and Health Science, a Supplementary Credential 7-12 for Social Science, as well as a Teaching Credential issued in 2001. Mariam lends her talents to the ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions team as department head and staff supervisor for many of the school partners. She has been instrumental in the development of ASSIST Platform features for district level, teacher and student support. Additionally, Mariam has taken a title position with the international department providing training and support to international clients. She is also the Lead Trainer for academic partnerships worldwide. She works closely with the development team in the continuous design and expansion of the ASSIST Platform supportive features.

Carrie has over twenty years of experience in education. She has earned a bachelor of arts in secondary education and a master of science in curriculum development and instructional technology. As a certified teacher, Carrie has enjoyed educating in secondary school classrooms, preparing students for college entrance exams and applications, and exploring online learning as a synchronous and asynchronous instructor. She brings well-rounded experience with both traditional and non traditional learners of all ages. Her leadership experience includes time working with families and staff as a learning center Director of Education. She now supports school partners for ADVANTAGES as a School Success Manager. Carrie is committed to providing the professional resources and responses for ADVANTAGES international schools to thrive as teaching and learning environments with the ASSIST platform.

Jen Tynan

Registrar

Jen Tynan joins ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions as a military spouse of over 20 years with fifteen years of experience in elementary education. Through her family’s numerous moves, Jen juggled the transferring of her own education along with her children’s. Her frequent relocations and personal experiences provide a unique perspective and deep understanding of the nontraditional student and the importance of online learning. Jen has 15 years of classroom experience in teaching grade levels Kindergarten through sixth grade. Her leadership experience includes the implementation and support of multiple military spouse organizations, sitting on the local high school athletic board of trustees as President, and is the Past-President of Marine Aviation Spouses for the greater Washington DC area. Jen brings valuable experience to ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions with her persistence and passion for student advocacy in a non-traditional academic environment. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development and Family Studies from the University of South Carolina. Her position with ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions gives Jen the opportunity to support fellow nontraditional students with a more personal approach to learning.

Kristi Lehan

Associate Registrar

Kristi Lehan, a graduate of Cal Poly, has worked in education and training for most of her career. Kristi has 8+ years of classroom and distance learning experience.  Ranging from parent volunteer, teacher’s aid, substitute teacher, 1:1 tutor, 1:1 Student Aide, and Reading Interventionist. These experiences are just a few of the things that help her better understand and support the individual needs of our students. She is an avid scuba diver taking her youngest daughter on many amazing adventures around the globe.

Kristi also enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, camping, fishing, and hiking. She has excellent computer and technical skills and maintains a passion for student success. Kristi also has a strong desire to serve. She has volunteered for the Girls Scouts of Sierra Nevada as a troop leader for many years and volunteers in her local elementary school.  She brings to ADLS an excellent work ethic, fantastic customer service, and a strong team spirit. She now supports students and staff for ADVANTAGES as Student Success Manager and Support for Admissions and Records.

Suzanne Kaplan-Fonseca

Success Manager- International
Suzanne Kaplan-Fonseca is an early detector of potential miscommunications. An experienced, creative, and agile global educator with expertise in teaching, teacher training, instructional design, intercultural communication, and administration, Suzanne has taught English to learners of all ages and levels in the U.S., Japan, and Mexico. Suzanne has presented at regional, national, and international conferences on her original materials and methodologies.
 
Suzanne is committed to client success through rigor, ongoing advising, and customization. She is an innovative thinker and an efficient problem solver who challenges clients to use observation and reflection as two of their most valuable tools.
 
Before joining Advantages Digital Learning Solutions, Suzanne was a Clinical Assistant Professor and Programs Coordinator at New York University, specializing in language education, intercultural communication, program development, and teacher training. In 2022, she founded The Instrumentors – a volunteer organization through which ESOL professionals support displaced professionals’ language and communication needs. Suzanne holds a BA from Skidmore College in Language and Early Childhood Development and an MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, VT.

Laura Bays

Success Manager- International

Laura Bays is a Success Manager at Advantages School International. Laura came to us after using the platform as a teacher turned administrator at one of our partner schools. With her background, she truly feels connected to the teachers and administrators in the schools she works with. Laura and her family recently moved to Greenfield Center, NY from Washington, DC where she taught high school courses for eleven years. She holds a Bachelors’ degree in Health Education from SUNY Cortland and a Masters of Science in Behavioral Health Studies from Teachers College. She has two young daughters and an old pup. These days she spends most of her free time exploring all of the family-friendly activities in upstate NY as well as renovating her farmhouse. She is passionate about student wellbeing, optimizing learning experiences, and helping young people discover their full potential. She looks forward to supporting your students in their academic journey and helping your school succeed.

Dawn Anaya

 Admissions

Ms. Anaya is a graduate of New Mexico State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management. She was born and raised in southern New Mexico. Dawn has always had a passion for working with children. Since moving to Reno, Nevada she has been actively working with elementary aged students in a classroom setting as a reading and math mentor. She mentored students in either a small group environment or 1:1 in the classroom. Dawn has dedicated her time serving for AmeriCorps under United Way helping young minds gain valuable skills in mathematics and in reading using the Heggerty phonics program. The training and skills she has learned over the past few years working as a mentor will bring valuable knowledge and understanding of the support needed for our ASI students. Outside of the office Dawn is a mother of three. She has personally been exposed to both speech and occupational therapy for each of them. Additionally she is connected with the Autism community which has been a huge help raising her son who is on the spectrum. Her insights based upon these personal experiences have already helped promote student success with ASI. On the weekends you can find Dawn enjoying her time reading a good book or out on the sidelines cheering on her oldest daughter playing soccer. Dawn’s role as Success Manager will support both students and staff here at ADVANTAGES.

Emily Grace Kinsey

Tutoring Coordinator

Emily Grace Kinsey is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia, receiving a B.S. in Psychology with an Emphasis in Neuroscience. She began her career with ADVANTAGES as one of our tutors in 2023 and now operates the Tutoring Center and Academic Coaching Program. She has demonstrated leadership in academia through her time on the Georgia State Superintendent’s advisory council and by doing research on the effects of stress on academic performance and executive functioning. She also spent a significant amount of time at the University of Georgia studying the psychology of learning and memory. She is passionate about helping struggling students with course material and equipping them to develop their executive functioning skills, enabling them to become better academics overall.

When she isn’t working, she enjoys being active outdoors by riding her horse, running, hiking, or gardening. She also loves reading, coffee, and spending time with her dogs and fiancé, whom she will marry in December 2025.

Ms. Chinchar joined ADVANTAGES in 2018 and currently serves as the Lead Teacher, supporting staff in professional development and best instructional practices. A U.S. Army veteran, she served four years on active duty, including a 12-month deployment to the Middle East. Following military service, Ms. Chinchar earned a Master’s in Teaching from the University of Washington in Seattle and holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Gonzaga University. Dedicated to student success, Ms. Chinchar strives to help all learners achieve their goals at their own pace and inspires a lifelong passion for learning. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son, and practicing martial arts.

Kirsten Kubala

Kirsten has been teaching a variety of courses and grade levels since 2006.
She earned a BA in Anthropology and History from Ripon College.
She earned an MA in Education from Aurora University and MS in Applied Anthropology from the University of North Texas. Kirsten joined ADVANTAGES in 2018.

She has extensive coaching & playing experience in soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Kirsten developed and helped run local school district programs including community service, outdoor education, Model UN, Mock Trial, international & domestic student travel groups, and more. Prior to switching careers to education, Kirsten was a Strategic Services Manager and Consultant with positions located in multiple countries.

Melissa Jeffers

Miss Jeffers grew up in Tampa, Florida, and graduated from Liberty University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration: International Business. Her educational experience includes teaching Math and Science for a local Private School and at Club Med International Sports Academy, serving as an Assistant Academic Director. Miss Jeffers holds certification from the State of Florida in Math and certification from the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools in Science. Miss Jeffers loves to travel, having been to over 30 countries in North America, Central America, Asia, Africa and Europe. Ms. Jeffers joined ADVANTAGES in 2018.

Vanessa Oland

English

Ms. Oland joined ADVANTAGES in 2021 with a Master’s Degree in Education from
Quincy University. Early on she developed a passion for teaching English and relocated to teach in international schools. She has taught high school English and Writing to students on 3 different continents!

Vanessa has earned multiple teaching certifications and a knack for connecting the students to the lesson, so they can enjoy learning. Recently, she trained and mentored over 100 teachers. She believes in a fun and interactive classroom where everyone can thrive. When she is not teaching, you can find her hiking, at the beach, or traveling.

Lindsey Congalosi

 Science

Ms. Congalosi grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin and later attend the University of Wisconsin, Madison. After graduating, Lindsey moved to New York City to begin her career teaching. She now lives in New York with her husband, six-year-old daughter, and three large dogs.

Lindsey has a passion for science and is a self-declared ‘proud science nerd’. She has over 13 years of classroom teaching experience and has taught many different science classes including earth science, biology, forensic science, and psychology.

Lindsey has experience with non-traditional students as well. She is a certified Google educator and has created several online high school and college-level courses in addition to developing science curriculum materials for homeschoolers. Ms. Congalosi joined ADVANTAGES in 2019.

Cate Peterson

Physical Sciences

With over 16 years of educational experience, Ms. Peterson is a certified high school Chemistry teacher in Connecticut and Michigan, holding a Master’s degree in Chemistry and prior experience in industrial and manufacturing fields. Her teaching background spans honors, college prep, and general-level courses, as well as work in alternative education settings supporting students with diverse academic and emotional needs. Ms. Peterson has extensive experience in both synchronous and asynchronous virtual learning environments, curriculum development using STEM, UbD, and NGSS-aligned methods, and the integration of technology for personalized, competency-based instruction. She joined ADVANTAGES in 2020.

Aileen Gonzalez

Science

Aileen holds a B.S. in Biochemistry/Cell Biology from UC San Diego and a Master’s in Education from National University, with teaching credentials in Biological/Life Sciences (CA & TX) and Special Education (TX). She’s worked in education for over 12 years and currently teaches Middle and High School sciences for ADVANTAGES and Science Special Education at Straus Middle School in San Antonio. Previously, she taught Biology, Biotechnology, Forensic Science, and PLTW Human Body Systems for 7 years in California. Before teaching, she worked 8 years in neuroscience research on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s treatments and 5 years as an Organ Transplant Technician in Chicago.

Outside of work, Aileen enjoys traveling, spending time with family, and walking her dog, Mila. She’s been married for 25 years and has three children: a son in graduate school at the University of Hawaii, a daughter finishing college at Loyola, and an 8th grader. Teaching is her passion, especially inspiring students with special needs to discover a love for science.

Mona Vartanian

World Languages

Ms. Vartanian holds two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree in Education. With extensive teaching experience across elementary, middle, and high school levels, she has taught subjects including Linguistics, Computer Skills, Humanities, and various electives, as well as Advanced Placement and college-level courses. Ms. Vartanian has worked with homeschool, traditional, and online students, recognizing that each learner processes and retains knowledge uniquely.
A lifelong language learner,she speaks multiple languages and is currently studying Chinese, with interests in Farsi and Hebrew. This passion for languages and cultures complements her love of travel and global learning. In addition to teaching, Ms. Vartanian is a Certified LearningSuccess™ Coach, Certified Personal Computer Specialist, Certified Web Designer, Certified Handwriting Specialist, and Certified Lindamood Bell Reading Program (LIPS) instructor. Ms. Vartanian joined ADVANTAGES in 2020.
